Pediatric Test Instructions

This pediatric color vision test is designed for children 4–5 years old or for those who do not know their numbers. It has thirteen test plates that use three symbols: circle, star, and square. This test is similar to the adult test but with specific parameters changed to make it easier for children. It works on any computer or tablet with a modern browser.

  An adult should sit with the child and help guide them through the test.

  The test uses three symbols: circle (○), star (★), and square (□). Make sure the child knows these shapes before starting.

  Each plate will display one or more symbols hidden within a circle of colored dots.

  The child must identify which symbol (or symbols) they can see in the plate.

  There is no strict time limit for the pediatric test — take as long as needed.

  Most color-normal children should correctly identify 11 out of the 13 test plates.

  If the child cannot identify 11 plates, have their vision tested by a vision care professional.

If the child correctly identifies 11 or more of the 13 plates, their color vision is likely normal. Identifying fewer than 11 correctly suggests a possible color vision deficiency, and we recommend having the child's vision tested professionally by an optometrist or ophthalmologist under controlled testing conditions.
