Adult Test Instructions

Step-by-step instructions for taking the Waggoner Adult Computerized Color Vision Test.

About the Adult Test

This "adult" pseudoisochromatic color vision test is designed and copyrighted by Dr. Terrace L. Waggoner. It has one demo plate and 29 test plates with numbers. The test has been validated and used by a multitude of organizations, including the U.S. Navy. Each plate is displayed for 5 seconds. You will see nine number choices below the test plate — select the number you see displayed in the plate.

How to Take the Test

  • 1

Read the instructions on the demo plate carefully before beginning.

  • 2

Each test plate will appear for 5 seconds. You must select your answer before the time expires.

  • 3

Below each test plate you will see nine number choices. Click the number you see on the plate.

  • 4

If you are not sure, make your best guess — do not leave any plate unanswered.

  • 5

You cannot go back to a previous plate once you have moved on.

  • 6

After all plates are completed, your results will be shown immediately.

  • 7

If you pass, you will receive a printable certificate with your name and the date of the test.

Test Examples

Before starting the test you will be shown a demo plate. The demo plate will show you exactly how the test works — it explains how to see the number in the plate and how to select your answer. The demo plate is not timed and is just for practice. When you are ready, click "Begin Test" to start the real test.
