About Testing Color Vision

In 1992, T.J., who was six years old at the time, came home from school with a note from the school nurse saying that he was "colorblind". His father, Dr. Terry Waggoner — an optometrist — was surprised he had not diagnosed the condition himself. Thinking back to preschool and kindergarten, T.J.'s teachers had mentioned difficulty learning concepts such as grouping same or different colored objects. The family thought it might be a learning problem or lack of attention, but it turned out to be a color vision deficiency.
